授業としての具体的到達目標 ／Concrete arrival target as the class	This class introduces the academic subject of linguistics and considers applications oriented towards cultural investigations of language content. The course develops a "toolkit" for analysing sentences of Japanese and English. Seeing text analysed is to see the embodiment of grammatical understanding. This will equip students with skills to criticise and improve their own language use through observing implications drawn from rich grammatical analysis.
授業の概要 ／Summary of the class	Each class will introduce more of the analysis toolkit and show how to apply the toolkit to real textual materials, including students own work.
授業の内容予定 ／Contents plan of the class	授業計画 第１回：Introduction - taking language expressions apart 第２回：A hierarchy of layers (word > phrase > clause > sentence) 第３回：Phrase head words (nouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs) 第４回：Functional / Connective words 第５回：Phrases - noun phrases 第６回：Phrases - adjective phrases, adverb phrases, preposition phrases 第７回：Midterm test 第８回：Clauses - transitivity, grammatical roles 第９回：Auxiliaries in the clause, Voice, Polarity 第１０回：Adverbials in the clause 第１１回：Clause types (declaratives, interrogatives, exclamatives, imperatives and directives) 第１２回：Subordination of clause content 第１３回：Coordination of clause content 第１４回：Creating a parsed corpus (a database of grammatically analysed sentences) 第１５回：Visualising grammatical dependencies 定期試験験
成績評価方法及び採点基準 ／A scholastic evaluation method and marking standard	In course participation 20%, assignments 20%, midterm test 30%, and final test 30%. 上記を合算して,最終的な成績評価を行う予定です。
予習及び復習等の内容 ／Contents such as preparations for lessons and the review	Students should be ready to participate in the class activities using English. 英語を使って授業に参加できるように準備してきてください。
