/Concrete arrival target as the class
〇To be able to discuss familiar topics (interests, experiences, personal goals, etc.), local and global issues, etc.
〇To be able to communicate with people of different cultural backgrounds through activities such as interviews, to ask for further explanations of what is not understood, and to express one's own opinions based on the opinions of others
〇To be able to learn how to think creatively and express oneself in a creative way
〇To be able to understand the advantages and disadvantages of technology (translation tools, AI, applications, etc.) and how to use them appropriately in studying English
授業の概要
/Summary of the class
〇Acquire a comprehensive foundation of English language skills, focusing on listening and speaking, and linking them to the content of English Communication A and English Communication C and D.
〇Learn to use English as a lingua franca in order to communicate with people from various cultural backgrounds.
〇Acquire the habit of continuing to study independently throughout one's life, based on what has been learned in class.

Class 9 Mid-course project (structured small-group discussion on researched topic, peer review in class)

成績評価方法及び採点基準
/A scholastic evaluation method and marking standard
1. The standardized exam (VELC Test):20% Sat. Feb. 4th.
2. Participation(Class activities): 20%
3. Examination/Presentation/Paper/Project: 30%
4. Assignments/Self-study:  30%
All of the above will be added together for the final grade.
予習及び復習等の内容
/Contents such as preparations for lessons and the review
Before Class: 
Check the class schedule above, read and listen to the content of the next class in advance, and look up the necessary vocabulary and information.

After Class:
Review the CambridgeOne online workbook and do the assigned tasks for each unit.

Self Study:
Students are encouraged to use the English Lounge seminars, conversation practice, English books and DVDs, and books and English DVDs from the Academic Commons in the library. English Lounge seminars will be incorporated into self-study of your final grade when you submit an activity report.

留意点・予備知識
/Point to keep in mind, back ground
Attendance, active participation, and self-study outside classroom are very important for language learning. Therefore, keep the following in mind:
1. Students are expected to attend every class. Students must attend 2/3 of all classes in order to pass.
2. Students should not be late to class.
3. Self-study time outside of class is expected to be twice the time spend in the classroom: 180 minutes of self-study for 90 minutes of class. Study systematically.
