授業の概要
/Summary of the class
This course introduces students to history through a Content and English Integrated Learning (CEIL) approach, combining historical inquiry with English language development. Over 15 weeks, students will explore key historiographical concepts, thematic historical analysis, and comparative approaches while developing critical thinking and academic communication skills. The course is divided into four thematic blocks.

Block 1: Concepts and Challenges in Historiography
Block 2: Themes in Historical Analysis
Block 3: History Genres and Comparative Approaches
Block 4: History as Practice

Block 1: Concepts and Challenges in Historiography
  Week 1: Orientation, Introduction to History and Historiography
  - What is history? Why do we study it?
  Week 2: Understanding Historical Sources
  - Primary vs. Secondary Sources
  Week 3: The Historian as an Unreliable Narrator
  - Subjectivity in Historical Writing
  Week 4: Orientalism and Eurocentrism
  - Viewing "the Other" in History
  Week 5: History in Images and Media
  - The Role of Visual Representations

Block 2: Themes in Historical Analysis
  Week 6: Historical Change and Continuity
  - Identifying Patterns in History
  Week 7: Power and History
  - History as a Tool of Power

Week 8: Midterm Project Presentations

/Contents such as preparations for lessons and the review
Students should read the assigned texts and watch the assigned videos before class, take notes, and be prepared to participate in discussion. They should take notes during class and review. Students are expected to prepare in-class presentations to be given in English several times per semester.

Class will be a combination of student presentations, in-class discussion, and teacher lectures. The lectures will provide a a combination of theoretical tools and concrete examples. Student presentations will apply lessons from previous weeks to new examples.
