授業としての具体的到達目標／Concrete arrival target as the class	Intercultural Studies is concerned with effective and appropriate interaction with people from other language and cultural backgrounds. This is required when English speakers, including non-native speakers, interact with each other in today’s globalized age.
授業の概要／Summary of the class	Broad aims will include students recognising, exploring, and understanding their own cultural assumptions and values. During the course, students will be brought into contact with the attitudes, values and traditions of various cultures of countries where English is spoken, as steps towards embracing and understanding cultural diversity.
授業の内容予定／Contents plan of the class	授業計画第１回：What are the components of culture? What does intercultural learning involve? 第２回：What is cultural identity? How is cultural identity expressed? Who creates cultural identity? 第３回：Do people typically belong to one cultural community, or potentially to many? 第４回：Concerns of time and delay. 第５回：Rites of passage. 第６回：Eating and drinking. 第７回：Conversation and ... silence. 第８回：Non-verbal communication. 第９回：Change in the roles and images of women and men. 第１０回：Romantic love. 第１１回：Differences in the way cultures regard children. 第１２回：What is there to link creative education with cultural education? 第１３回：What has been the impact of science and technology on culture? 第１４回：What is social value? Can social values change? Are there absolute social values? 第１５回：Intercultural competence. Classes will be given in English
成績評価方法及び採点基準／A scholastic evaluation method and marking standard	Assignments 60%, Final report 40%. Submission details will be explained during class.
予習及び復習等の内容／Contents such as preparations for lessons and the review	Preparation for class requires reading the assigned texts in advance, and looking up any unknown terms in a dictionary. For the review stage of the course, we will be checking that content has been understood. Students should be ready to participate in the class activities using English. 英語を使って授業に参加できるように準備してきてください。
